offstage Gives Agents Their Own Mac
offstage is an open-source CLI and MCP server that gives Claude Code, Codex, and opencode a separate logged-in macOS account for GUI work, simulators, Xcode UI tests, and app interaction. It routes commands between headless execution, Linux containers, and isolated macOS sessions while keeping the developer’s screen available.
offstage addresses a surprisingly consequential bottleneck in agentic development: computer-use agents need displays, but developers still need control of their machines.
- –The second macOS account enables background screenshot-click-test loops for Xcode, iOS simulators, and freshly built apps.
- –Its router avoids unnecessary overhead by keeping ordinary headless tests in place and sending headed browser work to Xvfb.
- –MCP support makes the tool directly usable by Claude Code, Codex, and opencode.
- –Isolation covers GUI sessions and input streams, not full resource or security isolation, since both accounts share the same Mac.
- –Free, open-source distribution makes it especially compelling for local-first developers building agent-driven QA workflows.
