Gemini adds memory import, chat history
Google is making it easier to switch into Gemini by letting users import key memories, preferences, and full chat history from other AI assistants. The March Gemini Drop also expands Personal Intelligence across Google apps and upgrades Gemini Live with longer context retention and faster conversation flow.
// ANALYSIS
This is less a flashy new feature than a retention play: Google is lowering the switching cost from rival assistants by making Gemini remember what you already taught another model.
- –Memory import turns Gemini into a carry-over layer for user context, which makes the assistant feel less disposable and more sticky.
- –Full chat-history import is the bigger unlock for power users, since it preserves prior decisions, preferences, and unfinished threads.
- –Personal Intelligence across Gmail, Photos, and YouTube pushes Gemini further into “connected assistant” territory instead of a standalone chatbot.
- –The Gemini Live context upgrade matters because personalization only feels good if the live conversational layer can hold state without constant repetition.
- –This is a clear signal that Google sees personalization, not just raw model quality, as the next battleground for consumer AI assistants.
