SpacebarX launches private, keyboard-first outliner
SpacebarX launches as a local-first outliner for notes, tasks, projects, writing, Markdown, and code. It keeps work on-device, syncs through Google Drive or Dropbox, and offers optional Pro views, version history, encryption, Calendar, and BYOK AI.
SpacebarX is a compelling Workflowy-meets-Obsidian alternative, with privacy and keyboard speed doing more of the differentiation than AI. Its biggest test will be whether a solo, local-first workflow can compete with richer collaborative workspaces.
- –Nested outlines keep tasks beside the notes and context that explain them
- –Local storage and user-controlled cloud sync reduce vendor lock-in and server-side data exposure
- –Code and Markdown blocks make it more useful for developers than a conventional task manager
- –BYOK AI supports Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, and Grok without making AI the product’s center of gravity
