OwlOCR 7.23.0 Reads Misnamed Scans
OwlOCR 7.23.0 expands image-format support and adds an optional setting that detects files by content, letting users open scans with unfamiliar or missing extensions. The October 21 update also preserves PDF structure and orientation across OCR workflows. [Official changelog](https://owlocr.com/changelog/)
This is a small but genuinely humane update: file extensions are metadata, not a reason to block access.
- –“Try all file types” checks files as images or PDFs instead of forcing users into Finder renaming.
- –Content detection preserves multipage PDFs and image orientation through previews, OCR, and export.
- –Support now reaches Open Files, drag-and-drop, folder imports, and command-line workflows.
- –Keeping the feature optional is smart because probing every file can add latency or surface unreadable inputs.
- –OwlOCR remains a privacy-friendly Mac OCR tool, with Apple Vision and optional local AI processing on-device. [OwlOCR homepage](https://owlocr.com/)
