OpenCode Adds Claude Subscription Support
OpenCode adds a built-in Claude Agent provider that runs Claude through the user’s local Claude Code login and Anthropic’s Agent SDK, while preserving OpenCode’s tools, permissions, and workflow. The merged integration creates a subscription-backed alternative to API keys without OpenCode directly handling Claude credentials.
This is a smart integration boundary, but its biggest advantage is also its biggest risk: OpenCode gains Claude access while remaining dependent on Anthropic’s subscription policies.
- –Users must install Claude Code, run `claude auth login`, and select Claude Agent in `/connect`.
- –OpenCode keeps control of tools, permissions, session history, compaction, and MCP integrations.
- –The provider requires Claude Code on the same machine, limiting its usefulness for hosted workspaces, CI, and remote teams.
- –Delegating authentication to the unmodified Claude Code process is cleaner than older direct-login plugins, though Anthropic’s long-term policy position remains a dependency.
