NVIDIA, Baker Lab Release RFD4-Proteina
NVIDIA and the University of Washington’s Institute for Protein Design released RFD4-Proteina, a BSD-licensed model that jointly generates protein sequences and all-atom structures under structural, chemical, and functional constraints. It supports enzyme, antibody, binder, motif-scaffolding, inverse-folding, and reward-guided design workflows.
RFD4-Proteina pushes protein design toward programmable, searchable generation rather than one-shot structure prediction, though wet-lab validation remains the real bottleneck.
- –Joint sequence–structure generation can simplify pipelines traditionally split across RFdiffusion, sequence design, and scoring models
- –Reward-guided search lets researchers optimize designs against custom geometric, energetic, or structure-prediction criteria
- –Open weights, code, Python APIs, Hugging Face, and NVIDIA NIM make the model unusually accessible for reproducible research and scientific-agent workflows
- –The model spans proteins, modified amino acids, sugars, DNA, and RNA, broadening its use beyond conventional protein backbones
- –Local deployment still requires Linux, Python 3.12, and a compatible NVIDIA GPU, limiting accessibility outside well-equipped labs
