ONCard turns Ollama into local flashcards
ONCard is an open-source, offline-first flashcard app for Windows that targets Ollama users who want a more personal way to study. It can turn notes, slides, and other files into flashcards, uses an embedding model for semantic card search, and includes a performance-aware recommendation system called NNA. The current build also supports an in-app AI help flow via `/ai`, and the maker says MCQ support and multiple profiles are coming next.
// ANALYSIS
Solid idea with a clear wedge: local AI plus flashcards, without depending on a cloud study platform.
- –FTC is the strongest feature: it lowers the friction from notes to usable cards.
- –NNA and semantic search make this feel more like a study system than a simple card generator.
- –The `/ai` helper is a smart way to add tutoring without leaving the app.
- –Windows-only and Ollama dependency narrow the audience, but that also gives the project a focused first user base.
- –Still early-stage, but the roadmap suggests it is moving toward a more complete study app rather than a demo.
