Go JSON v2 Goes Stable
Go 1.27 makes encoding/json/v2 and encoding/json/jsontext stable, adding stricter JSON handling, streaming APIs, configurable options, and faster unmarshaling. The legacy encoding/json package remains supported, enabling gradual migration.
This is a quietly significant standard-library upgrade: JSON-heavy Go services gain safer defaults and better performance without a forced ecosystem-wide rewrite.
- –Rejects invalid UTF-8 and duplicate object names by default, reducing interoperability and security risks.
- –Separates syntax processing from Go-value marshaling through the new jsontext package.
- –Adds streaming custom interfaces and caller-specified marshalers for more efficient integrations.
- –Unmarshaling benchmarks show improvements of up to 10x, while marshaling remains roughly at parity with v1.
- –Migration still requires testing because nil values, case matching, omitempty, and time.Duration behavior changed.
