LibertyRecompAndroid Runs GTA IV Natively on Android.
LibertyRecompAndroid statically recompiles the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV into native ARM64 code for Snapdragon/Adreno Android devices, using Vulkan instead of full-system emulation. The experimental open-source port is playable at roughly 720p and 30 FPS on supported hardware, but requires users’ own game files. [GitHub](https://github.com/vaduur/LibertyRecompAndroid/releases)
This is a striking demonstration of AI-assisted porting, but it is still a fragile proof of concept rather than a polished mobile release.
- –Claude reportedly generated most of the Android port, while the maintainer focused on testing, debugging, and integration.
- –Static recompilation avoids emulating the entire Xbox 360, reducing overhead while preserving much of the original game.
- –Support is currently narrow: Android 10+, Snapdragon Adreno GPUs, Vulkan, and roughly 15 GB of storage.
- –Crashes, graphical issues, audio problems, and driver incompatibilities remain likely.
- –The bigger story is the workflow: AI can now accelerate platform-layer work around complex recompilation projects, even when human validation remains essential.
