Muse Code Makes Training Opt-Out
Meta’s Muse Code subscriptions now default to Contributor mode, allowing prompts, code, files, context, and outputs to train future Meta models unless users switch it off in settings. Standard mode keeps content out of training, but Meta makes developers opt out of data use.
This is a poor default for a coding agent that routinely handles proprietary repositories, secrets, logs, and internal documentation.
- –Meta frames Contributor mode as a trade: lower pricing or more usage in exchange for training rights.
- –The opt-out exists in `/settings`, but a first-login notice does not make the default privacy-safe.
- –Turning off Contributor mode does not automatically mean zero data retention; Meta treats ZDR as a separate option.
- –Developers should verify the active mode before connecting Muse Code to any sensitive codebase.
