OpenAI urged to open-source text-davinci-003

Keeping a dead model closed looks more like inertia than strategy.

• –OpenAI’s deprecation docs show text-davinci-003 has been retired since January 4, 2024, so it no longer has active product value.
• –For developers, an open release would be useful as a reproducibility and benchmarking reference for older completion-style workflows.
• –The main objection is probably safety and licensing cleanup, not revenue protection, because the model has already been superseded by newer APIs and weights.
• –If OpenAI wants goodwill with the research community, this is the kind of legacy artifact that could be released without cannibalizing current products.
