Tailscale Aperture routes hundreds of models
Tailscale built Aperture as a customer-facing AI gateway on Vercel AI Gateway, giving tailnet users identity-based access to hundreds of models without individual provider keys. It adds zero data retention, zero markup, BYOK support, and per-response cost and usage data.
Aperture shows AI gateways becoming enterprise control planes, not just routing middleware. Its strongest move is combining Tailscale identity with Vercel’s model breadth, reducing both security friction and integration sprawl.
- –Tailnet identity replaces scattered user and agent API keys, simplifying access revocation and auditing.
- –Vercel AI Gateway lets Tailscale support hundreds of models through one integration.
- –Cost and usage metadata eliminates the need to maintain provider-specific pricing tables.
- –Zero data retention and no markup directly address enterprise objections to centralized AI infrastructure.
- –Vercel Sandbox extends the platform from model access to controlled, ephemeral agent execution.
