Railway CLI adds MCP server support
Railway has added support for both local stdio and remote MCP servers in its CLI, enabling AI coding assistants like Cursor and Claude Code to view and manage hosted services, logs, and environment variables. This integration allows agents to interact directly with Railway's platform, facilitating autonomous setup, environment configuration, and infrastructure management from the developer's local environment.
This is a major step toward autonomous DevOps, shifting AI coding agents from mere code-writers to active system administrators.
* Standardizing infrastructure control via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) makes cloud services first-class citizens in modern AI-enabled development environments.
* Giving AI agents direct access to logs, environment variables, and service states allows for fast, automated debugging and configuration workflows.
* Security risks increase exponentially as agents gain the ability to modify production settings, making fine-grained IAM controls and approval steps critical.
