Claude Code, local 5090 for spreadsheets

I’d lean Claude Code unless privacy, offline use, or full local control is the real requirement. For spreadsheet work, reliability and file correctness matter more than raw GPU power.

• –Anthropic now supports creating and editing Excel files in Claude’s paid experiences, which removes a lot of DIY glue code from the workflow.
• –Claude Code is positioned as a terminal-first tool that also works in IDEs, web, and Slack, so it fits into real development workflows better than a one-off local experiment.
• –Spreadsheet edits are fragile: formula mistakes, formatting drift, and prompt-injection risks can silently wreck outputs, so verification matters either way.
• –A local 5090 setup only wins if you’ll reuse the hardware heavily or need strict data isolation; otherwise the subscription is likely the faster and cheaper path in time saved.
• –If the job is mostly generating clean .xlsx files from data, cloud Claude looks like the safer bet; if it’s sensitive, offline, or highly customized, local still has a strong case.
