OpenCode launches as open-source Claude Code rival
OpenCode is an open-source AI coding agent by Dax Raad and the Anomaly team that runs natively in the Omarchy terminal. Designed to be provider-agnostic, it features a server-client architecture that allows developers to run models like Claude, OpenAI, or local versions via Ollama in any directory via a simple CLI command.
OpenCode is a major step toward a provider-agnostic future for AI coding agents, shifting power back to developers who want local control and open-source transparency. Native integration with the Omarchy terminal provides a high-performance environment, while a model-agnostic design supports Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, and local models like Ollama. Its client-server architecture allows offloading compute to remote workstations, and native LSP integration enables complex, multi-file refactors with ease. Developed by the creators of SST, the project focuses on developer experience and the terminal-first workflow that proprietary alternatives often lack.
