Karpathy AutoResearch Sparks Buzzword Fatigue
Andrej Karpathy's AutoResearch repo is a real open-source experiment loop, but the Reddit thread says the hype around it is already starting to feel like empty AI jargon. The core idea is practical, but the surrounding discourse is getting stale.
The project is legitimate, but the social-media treatment is drifting into buzzword territory fast. Karpathy shipped a concrete workflow for autonomous ML experiments, yet people are using the name as a credibility badge more than a description of the tool. The repo centers on a simple, runnable loop: edit code, train briefly, compare metrics, keep or discard. It is built on nanochat, so the value is in controlled experimentation, not mystical self-improving AI. For developers, the useful signal is tighter eval loops and smaller research scopes, not the fantasy of fully autonomous science. That makes it interesting infrastructure for ML iteration, even if the marketing aura is already wearing thin.
