Google Search retools box, adds agents
Google is rolling out a redesigned, AI-powered Search box built on Gemini 3.5 Flash, plus follow-up chat in AI Mode, information agents, and custom mini-app style experiences. The update starts today in AI Mode markets, with agents and richer task flows coming over the next few months.
This is Google admitting that search is becoming an agent surface, not just a link index. The real shift is less about prettier results and more about Search taking on the work of framing, monitoring, and even acting on queries.
- –The new box accepts text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs, which makes prompt composition the default interaction model.
- –Information agents turn Search into an always-on monitoring layer, closer to Google Alerts plus reasoning than classic search.
- –Generative UI and “mini apps” are the strategic play: Google wants Search to produce task-specific interfaces, not just answer snippets.
- –This raises the pressure on publishers and SEO, because users may get more value before clicking through to source sites.
- –For developers, the important signal is convergence: Search, Gemini, and Antigravity are being wired into one agentic stack.
