Roboflow Sports Maps Football Tactics
Roboflow Sports is an MIT-licensed computer-vision toolkit for detecting and tracking football players, separating teams, identifying pitch keypoints, and projecting movement onto a tactical radar. It gives developers reusable building blocks for analyzing ordinary match footage.
The project makes advanced sports analytics unusually approachable, but reliable results still depend heavily on camera quality and task-specific models.
- –Combines YOLO detection, ByteTrack tracking, team classification, and pitch calibration in one pipeline
- –Homography-based mapping turns raw video coordinates into interpretable field positions
- –Open-source code and datasets lower the barrier for scouting tools, coaching dashboards, and amateur analysis
- –Occlusions, jersey ambiguity, ball tracking, and moving-camera footage remain difficult edge cases
- –The repository is better viewed as a strong research and prototyping foundation than a turnkey analytics product
