Anthropic SDKs Ship Major Versions
Anthropic released major versions of its Python, TypeScript, C#, Go, Java, PHP, and Ruby SDKs, alongside the ant CLI, all targeting API version 2026-10-21. Most users should see limited disruption, but the release includes breaking API changes and a shift from MIT to Apache 2.0 licensing.
This is a compatibility reset disguised as a routine SDK refresh: the code changes may be small, but the default API version and removed parameters make it a real upgrade checkpoint.
- –Java’s `MessageParam` is split into role-specific types, reducing an increasingly overloaded API surface.
- –The new API removes `temperature`, `top_p`, and `top_k`, so applications passing them must update before upgrading.
- –Assistant document blocks and citations in user messages now trigger validation errors.
- –Each SDK major version pins a specific Anthropic API version, making upgrades part of API migration strategy.
- –The MIT-to-Apache-2.0 license change may matter to companies with strict dependency and redistribution policies.
