Claude Code draws open-source criticism

This is the classic best-model, weaker-product complaint: Claude Code may outthink the competition and still feel worse to steer. Anthropic has the right primitives, but the experience still reads like it was tuned for autopilot first and inspection second.

• –Anthropic’s VS Code docs already promise inline diffs, plan review, conversation history, and checkpoints, so the gripe is mostly about surfaced UX and discoverability rather than missing core capability.
• –The hidden todo list complaint is really a trust complaint, and Anthropic’s own docs show the tradeoff: the VS Code extension is a subset of the CLI, so some controls still live outside the polished IDE surface.
• –Kilo Code leans hard into orchestrator mode, task hierarchy, and open inspection, which is exactly the control surface this user says Claude Code lacks.
• –Because Claude Code is bundled into Pro and Max, the subscription experience now has to satisfy power users who compare it against open-source wrappers, not just casual users.
