Savvy Learns Language Through Memory
A Reddit demo shows Savvy, a VSA/Transformer hybrid, being taught greetings and role labels through repeated conversational memory instead of conventional training. It gets increasingly coherent as the transcript accumulates context, especially once the model internalizes the Spaceman/Savvy roles.
Clever demo, but the zero-data pitch is doing a lot of work. This reads more like a memory-augmented chatbot bootstrapped by prompts than proof that language can emerge from nothing. The early turns are mostly instruction following and role correction, not fresh language acquisition. The star examples are the strongest part because they show the system recombining accumulated facts into more stable phrasing. The repeated “Hi Spaceman” loop suggests the memory mechanism is learning conversational state, not just echoing tokens. If this generalizes, the real value is persistent context and online adaptation, not a replacement for pretraining.
