Neorex brings native Rex panes to Neovim
Neorex is an early-stage, open-source Neovim frontend built in Zig for the Rex terminal multiplexer. It keeps buffers, registers, undo history, and language servers shared while rendering splits, floating windows, completion menus, and statuslines as native Rex panes.
Neorex is a compelling experiment in collapsing the boundary between editor and terminal multiplexer, though its rough edges make it an intriguing prototype rather than a daily-driver replacement yet.
- –Native Rex panes could make Neovim layouts feel more consistent and predictable
- –Shared Neovim state preserves the editor features users already rely on
- –Golden-frame tests against Ghostty show unusual attention to rendering correctness
- –Current limitations include macOS-only support, one tab page, and missing resize and pane-move commands
- –Its planned standalone Zig modules could eventually support other editors with external-window APIs
