OpenAI brings models, Codex to Google Cloud
OpenAI and Google Cloud are bringing OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex workflows to Model Garden, with Marketplace billing and support for existing cloud commitments. GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna begin in private preview, with Antigravity and Gemini Agent support coming soon.
This is less about a new model than distribution becoming the battleground: OpenAI gains enterprise reach while Google monetizes workloads that might otherwise leave its cloud. [Axios](https://www.axios.com/2026/10/21/openai-google-cloud-ai-models)
- –Unified billing and procurement could make OpenAI models easier for Google Cloud customers to adopt.
- –Codex CLI and Desktop workflows gain a path to Google Cloud inference under enterprise governance.
- –Google’s model-neutral platform becomes more compelling with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and 200+ other models.
- –Private preview leaves pricing, latency, regional availability, and production readiness to be validated.
- –Existing cloud commitments may accelerate pilots while increasing dependence on Google’s platform controls.
