Chatterbox-Indic-LoRA adds eight Indian languages to TTS
Developer reenigne314 fine-tuned the Chatterbox-Multilingual TTS model for eight Indian languages using LoRA adapters and a novel phonetic initialization technique. Training just 1.4% of parameters, the project significantly improves accuracy across Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and other regional scripts.
Applying LoRA to TTS backbones demonstrates that regional language support doesn't require massive compute if the underlying transformer architecture is well-understood. The "Brahmic warm-start" technique provides a clever phonetic shortcut by leveraging shared script ancestry, while the 1.4% parameter training footprint achieves significant accuracy gains, setting a blueprint for efficient community-driven expansion of multilingual speech models.
