Z-Image base weights land for local creators
Tongyi-MAI released full Z-Image foundation model weights, positioning it as the undistilled, fine-tunable counterpart to Z-Image-Turbo. The release emphasizes stronger output diversity, negative prompting control, and better suitability for LoRA training and local image-generation workflows.
This is the release power users wanted: slower than Turbo, but far more controllable and mod-friendly.
- –Full (non-distilled) weights make Z-Image a better base for custom fine-tunes than speed-first checkpoints.
- –Native support for negative prompts and higher seed diversity improves production iteration quality.
- –Open Apache-2.0 availability on Hugging Face and GitHub lowers friction for local experimentation and tooling integration.
