GENIUSpark Alberta Targets 100 MW Compute
Genius Group, FingerMotion, and BlueFlare signed binding agreements to form GENIUSpark Alberta and build Hanna Campus No. 1, a planned $24.3 million, 2.4 MW HPC site with 432 GPUs. The joint venture targets 100 MW across Alberta, with construction planned for December 2026 and first compute targeted for Q2 2027.
This is more interesting as a speed-to-power infrastructure bet than as an AI product launch: the community dividend is differentiating, but the compute is still a plan.
- –Small sites combining grid access with behind-the-meter generation could bypass Alberta’s congested large-load queue.
- –FingerMotion and BlueFlare handle site acquisition, power, construction, and operations, while Genius Group supplies training and community programs.
- –A proposed 10% net-profit community fund could help secure local support, but depends on utilization, pricing, financing, and execution.
- –Developers should view this as future hosted GPU and inference capacity—not a new model or API—with no customers, GPU specifications, or financing close disclosed.
- –The project remains subject to land acquisition, grid connection, project financing, and regulatory approvals.
