OpenAI to acquire Pierre, challenge GitHub
OpenAI plans to acquire Pierre Computer, whose Code Storage infrastructure and open-source Trees, Diffs, and Highlights tools already support Codex. The deal would bring Git-based, agent-native code storage deeper into Codex.
This is less a GitHub clone than an attempt to own the source-control layer built for coding agents.
- –Code Storage is designed for high-volume machine-generated repositories, branches, commits, and artifacts.
- –Pierre’s review and navigation libraries already give Codex a head start inside the developer workflow.
- –OpenAI is expanding from code generation into storing, reviewing, and shipping software.
- –The acquisition is not closed; financial terms are undisclosed, and Pierre’s open-source projects will remain open.
- –Existing Code Storage customers can continue using the service while integration plans develop.
