Asakiri Studio makes language courses local-first
Asakiri Studio is a free, open-source desktop tool for creating textbook-style language courses with lessons, multimedia, and interactive exercises. Courses remain portable as JSON files with local assets, making them easy to version, share, and host independently.
Asakiri’s strongest idea is treating course content as an owned, durable artifact instead of data trapped inside an LMS. The concept is especially promising for underserved and endangered languages, though its learner-facing app is still unfinished.
- –Local-first storage keeps course data offline, portable, and independent of the platform
- –JSON-based courses can live in Git repositories, enabling collaboration, review, and custom licensing
- –Structured vocab references and reusable content reduce duplication across grammar, reading, and exercise sections
- –Support for listening, speaking, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and word-order exercises pushes beyond generic course-authoring tools
- –The missing learner app means creators can build today, but students cannot yet use the full publishing workflow
