Vercel launches durable-harness for resilient coding agents
Vercel Labs introduced durable-harness, an Apache-2.0 toolkit that wraps Pi, OpenCode, fx, Claude Code, and Codex in Workflow SDK-backed runs. It journals model and tool-call state, then resumes interrupted turns after crashes or function timeouts across Vercel, Postgres, or local environments.
durable-harness targets the biggest weakness in autonomous coding agents: losing hours of progress when a process dies. Its strongest idea is separating durability from the harness itself, though external side effects still require careful idempotency design.
- –Durable logs record call intent and outcomes, allowing interrupted turns to continue without repeating completed work.
- –Adapters let developers keep their preferred coding agent while adding the same persistence layer underneath.
- –The Workflow SDK’s World interface supports local development, managed Vercel deployments, and Postgres-based self-hosting.
- –Agent Runs exposes resumed sessions in the same trace, making failures and recovery easier to inspect.
- –The project is experimental 0.0.x software, so teams should expect API churn before making it production-critical.
