NVIDIA Unveils 2.8T Indic Corpus
NVIDIA, IIT Madras, and AI4Bharat announced Nemotron-pretraining-Indic-v1, a roughly 2.8-trillion-token synthetic corpus spanning 22 Indian languages and 34 language-script configurations, alongside an open GPU-accelerated generation pipeline. The important breakthrough is reproducibility, not just scale: developers get both a massive Indic training resource and the recipe for extending it.
- –Covers native scripts across all 22 languages, plus romanized data for 12
- –Pipeline includes translation, automated quality assessment, targeted repair, and source tracing
- –Could materially improve multilingual pretraining for languages historically starved of high-quality data
- –Synthetic translation still cannot replace naturally authored text or guarantee cultural and regional fidelity
- –Open benchmarks and per-language evaluations will determine whether the token count translates into better models
