Quake-SRP Ports WinQuake To Safe Rust
Quake-SRP ports id Software’s WinQuake from C to safe Rust, compiling the CPU-based engine to WebAssembly for browser play. Claude Code authored much of the implementation, which is tested against the original using pixel, audio, and game-state comparisons. [GitHub](https://github.com/terrapapagalli1516/quake-srp)
This is a compelling demonstration of agent-assisted systems programming because the project has a concrete reference implementation and unusually strong behavioral tests.
- –Runs the software renderer in a browser without GPU APIs or Rust `unsafe` code
- –Differential tests compare rendered pixels, audio samples, entities, lighting, and camera state against WinQuake
- –A Classic preset preserves original behavior while the default adds widescreen, uncapped refresh, smoother animation, and touch controls
- –The workflow—agent branches, explicit constraints, and verification before merging—is more instructive for developers than the game port itself
- –It remains a single-player side project, and pixel-level agreement in tested scenarios does not prove universal correctness or security
