Hermes Agent adds animated Petdex pets
Nous Research has updated Hermes Agent to support animated pixel-art desktop companions from the Petdex gallery. These pets react to the agent's real-time states in the GUI or TUI, such as idle, thinking, running a tool, or failing.
Integrating animated pets is a clever UX play that makes autonomous background agents feel more companionable and less like a black box during long tasks. It provides a glanceable visual status indicator without cluttering terminal outputs. Connecting to the Petdex gallery of nearly 3,000 sprites taps into an existing community ecosystem instead of rebuilding pet assets from scratch. Allowing custom submissions gamifies the developer experience and strengthens community involvement, aligning with a broader shift toward adding playful desktop companions to CLI-based coding agents like Claude Code to reduce user friction during automated tasks.
