Anthropic taps SpaceX for Colossus compute
Anthropic says it will use all compute capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center, adding more than 300 megawatts of capacity within a month. The company says that lets it immediately double Claude Code’s five-hour limits for paid plans, remove peak-hour reductions for Pro and Max, and raise Opus API limits.
This is an infrastructure story disguised as a product update: Anthropic is converting new compute supply directly into better usage economics for its heaviest users.
- –Paid Claude Code users get the clearest win, with fewer session caps and less throttling during busy hours.
- –Opus API limits rising suggests Anthropic is trying to ease pressure on higher-end workloads, not just consumer chat usage.
- –The SpaceX deal underscores how frontier AI capacity is now a strategic asset, not just an ops detail.
- –For developers, the practical signal is that Anthropic expects demand to keep climbing and is buying headroom ahead of it.
