Pi v0.99.2 Tames MCP Startup
Pi v0.99.2 makes MCP integrations quieter and more discoverable by moving codemode servers out of the initial tool description, adding namespace search helpers, and avoiding startup delays. It also adds OAuth client-name overrides, provider-backed authentication, Anthropic workload identity federation, and live `/reload` support. This is a focused reliability release that addresses MCP’s biggest usability problem: too much context and too much initialization overhead. Pi is turning MCP into a lazy-loaded capability layer rather than another permanent tax on every prompt.
- –`searchTools()` and `describeNamespace()` give scripts a cleaner path to dynamically discover MCP tools.
- –Background MCP connections mean the first prompt no longer waits on servers that expose tools through codemode.
- –OAuth client naming and provider-token authentication should make enterprise and internal MCP deployments easier to wire up.
- –Anthropic workload identity federation reduces dependence on long-lived static credentials in automated environments.
- –The release also normalizes MCP names by replacing hyphens with underscores, so hard-coded tool references may need updates.
