Replay Theater Makes Claude Edits Reviewable
Anthropic’s Replay Theater is a Claude Code mod that records Edit, Write, and MultiEdit calls, then presents them as step-by-step diffs in a terminal pane. It gives developers a quick session-level audit trail without interrupting Claude’s workflow.
Replay Theater addresses a real weakness in agentic coding: the final diff shows what changed, but not how the agent got there. Its review UX is useful, though deliberately lightweight.
- –Captures edits across a turn and supports `/replay`, Prev, Next, and Close controls
- –Helps reconstruct multi-file changes when a final diff is difficult to reason about
- –Records denied or failed edits too, so the replay is an action log—not proof of successful code
- –Session-only storage and truncated diffs mean Git history, tests, and code review remain essential
- –Anthropic presents it as an open-source teaching sample for Claude Code mods, not a supported production product
