OpenTUI Targets Faster Native Text Editing
OpenTUI maintainer kmdrfx previewed an OpenCode-generated editor demo using native MarkTree support, highlighting more efficient text rendering and editing. The improvements will roll into OpenTUI incrementally.
OpenTUI is targeting the right bottleneck: terminal interfaces live or die by text-editing latency. The preview is promising, but remains an engineering demonstration rather than a published benchmark.
- –Native MarkTree can make highlights, edits, undo, and redo cheaper
- –Moving hot-path behavior into Zig should reduce TypeScript and FFI overhead
- –Faster text handling directly benefits OpenCode and other streaming TUIs
- –Unicode wrapping, selection, and IME correctness still require careful validation
