OpenCode founder replaces editor with voice
OpenCode co-founder Dax Raad (@thdxr) shared that fast local voice models have replaced traditional editors and coding agents in his workflow. He noted that the speed of voice dictation beats keyboard-driven navigation, especially as LLMs are now robust enough to infer intent from rambling speech.
Voice-driven coding is shifting from a novelty to a highly viable replacement for keyboard-driven development.
- –Speech-to-text models have reached a level of speed and local reliability that eliminates latency.
- –LLMs are now robust enough to infer developer intent even from imprecise, rambling voice inputs, removing the friction of structured dictation.
- –Terminal-based AI agents like OpenCode face stiff competition from specialized, system-wide local voice models that offer a more direct interface.
