IFTTT MCP connects Claude to apps

IFTTT launched an MCP server that lets Claude trigger actions, create Applets, and discover automations across IFTTT’s 1,000+ connected services. It turns chat into a control surface for Slack, Hue, Todoist, Notion, Gmail, and other everyday tools.

// ANALYSIS

This is less a developer framework release than a distribution play: IFTTT is making its old automation graph useful again by putting Claude in front of it.

  • The useful bit is action-taking, not search: Claude can send messages, log tasks, control devices, and create automations from natural language.
  • The initial setup is Claude-specific and requires a paid Claude plan, so this is not yet a universal MCP endpoint for every AI client.
  • It competes directly with Zapier MCP, but IFTTT’s consumer IoT and lightweight automation footprint gives it a different surface area.
  • The risk is permission sprawl: giving an assistant access to hundreds of app actions makes OAuth scope clarity and confirmation UX matter more than the demo suggests.
