RTX Spark Laptop Runs Arch Linux
A developer ported Arch Linux ARM to the ASUS ProArt P16 powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark, adding the kernel, NVIDIA drivers, ACPI overrides, keyboard, audio, and speaker support. The setup exposes 116 GiB of unified memory to both Linux and CUDA while delivering Windows-comparable CPU performance and roughly 30 tokens per second running Qwen locally.
This is an impressive proof-of-concept for portable local AI, but it also highlights how much vendor support is still missing from RTX Spark laptops.
- –Linux matches or slightly beats comparable Windows systems in multi-threaded 7-Zip benchmarks.
- –Unified memory is fully available to both CPU workloads and CUDA, avoiding Windows’ awkward dedicated/shared memory split.
- –Qwen inference works natively through ARM64 containers and vLLM, handling long-context code and incident-log tasks reliably.
- –The installation depends on custom patches, ACPI overrides, firmware extraction, and held system packages, so it remains enthusiast territory.
- –NVIDIA’s Windows-first strategy is especially frustrating because similar DGX Spark hardware already has a mature Linux path.
