Foundation Lab updates for Xcode beta 5
Foundation Models Framework Lab updates its public interface for Xcode 27 beta 5, adding new model variants and adapting to breaking API changes. The migration also removes custom transcript segments and several compatibility APIs.
Apple’s beta cadence is becoming a real maintenance burden for developers building on Foundation Models, but this update shows the framework maturing into a broader, more capable runtime.
- –Adds `.core3` and `.coreAdvanced3` model variants across OS generations
- –Introduces async Private Cloud Compute locale checks and richer generated-content metadata
- –Adds `Transcript.HistoryView` for mutable, random-access transcript history
- –Removes `Transcript.Segment.custom`, `LanguageModelCapabilities.init(capabilities:)`, and `ImageReference.resolve(in:)`
- –Signals that Foundation Models apps need version-aware interfaces, prompt testing, and migration plans throughout the beta cycle
