Sphinx quizzes developers before AI code ships
Sphinx is an open-source Git hook that pauses pushes to protected branches and quizzes developers about AI-generated code, including failure scenarios. It supports Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, Pi, plain Git, and OpenAI-compatible endpoints.
Sphinx targets a real weakness in agent-assisted development: code can become easier to generate than to understand. Its quiz gate is a clever accountability mechanism, but teams may see it as valuable guardrail or just another source of confirmation fatigue.
- –A reviewer model reads the diff without access to the developer’s coding-agent conversation
- –Incorrect answers explain the underlying behavior and generate a new scenario
- –The workflow preserves human responsibility without requiring developers to abandon AI coding tools
- –`sphinx yolo` provides an escape hatch while logging skipped checks
- –It complements tests and code review rather than replacing them
