AMD FSR 4.1.2 reaches Xbox, Ally handhelds
AMD and Microsoft made ML-based FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 available to Xbox Series X|S developers through the October 2026 GDK, with SDK support extending to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. The update adds Full and Lite INT8 models for balancing image quality against GPU cost.
This is a meaningful platform expansion for game developers, but it is not a console-wide visual upgrade overnight—games still need integration, tuning, and testing.
- –The shared SDK API now spans Xbox consoles, Windows handhelds, laptops, and desktop PCs.
- –The Lite INT8 model reduces upscaling cost, giving Series S developers more room to protect frame rates.
- –Microsoft’s sample measures FSR4 Lite at 2.75 ms for 4K on Series X and 3.4 ms for 1440p on Series S.
- –Developers can choose between Full and Lite models per title, making quality-performance tradeoffs explicit.
- –Support arriving through the GDK matters more than the headline version number: it gives Xbox studios a supported path to ML upscaling on existing RDNA 2 hardware.
