Factory Desktop brings agents, desktop control
Factory ships a native desktop app for macOS and Windows that lets teams run multiple Droids in parallel, control the desktop, and keep work synced across cloud or local machines. It expands Factory from a terminal-first agent tool into a broader workspace for coding, review, and adjacent business tasks.
Factory is pushing past “AI coder” into “agent operating system,” which is the more durable category if they can make the UX feel dependable.
- –Multi-agent sessions and persistent Droid Computers make the product feel stateful, not disposable, which matters for real engineering workflows
- –Computer use plus VS Code integration closes the loop between agent output and actual implementation work
- –Local model support and BYO machines are the enterprise story here: data residency, compliance, and control without giving up agent autonomy
- –AI-native visualization and mobile access suggest Factory wants to be the place where work is observed, not just generated
- –The desktop app also broadens the user base beyond terminal-heavy developers to PMs, designers, and operators
