ElevenAgents Finds Voice Wins Complex Calls
ElevenLabs analyzed 469 production agents and found that voice outperformed chat as conversations became longer and more complex. For calls over two minutes, voice achieved 31.7% higher success rates and resolved successful interactions roughly one-third faster.
This makes a strong case for routing customers by conversation complexity rather than forcing every issue into chat.
- –Voice success rates were 10.9 percentage points higher for conversations exceeding two minutes.
- –Successful long voice conversations averaged 4.6 minutes versus 7 minutes in chat.
- –Developers need low latency, natural turn-taking, emotional adaptation, tool use, and persistent context for voice to deliver this advantage.
- –The findings are compelling but correlational: conversation length is only an imperfect proxy for complexity, and success criteria varied by business.
