Databricks open-sources Omnigent agent meta-harness

Building a "meta-harness" rather than another standalone agent is a smart developer-centric move from Databricks that shifts the focus from raw agent execution to governance, interoperability, and collaboration.

By providing unified control policies, such as cost limits, approval gates, and sandboxing at the orchestration layer, Omnigent makes autonomous agents much safer for enterprise production environments. Real-time session collaboration across browser, mobile, and terminal environments also helps bridge the gap between human steering and autonomous execution. However, the project's ultimate viability will depend on how quickly it can adapt and keep up with the breakneck evolution of underlying proprietary agent SDKs.
