boat Adds Revocable VM Snapshot Sharing
boat now lets users share named VM snapshots through one-time, revocable codes from its UI, CLI, or API. Recipients can deploy the snapshot into their own account, with Boat removing known credentials and charging the recipient’s account.
Snapshot sharing turns boat from an isolated agent sandbox into a practical distribution layer for reproducible development environments, though “secrets scrubbed” is not a guarantee against secrets manually stored on disk.
- –One-time 256-bit codes are hash-stored and revocable, making controlled collaboration safer than sharing VM images directly
- –Recipients get their own independent sandbox and billing, simplifying handoffs between teams or customers
- –CLI, REST API, TypeScript, and Python support makes the feature usable in automated agent and deployment pipelines
- –Boat removes known logins, API keys, secret files, repository clones, and SSH keys before deployment
- –Developers must still audit snapshots for secrets written into arbitrary files, which Boat does not automatically remove
