xAI Grok Build beta hits terminal
xAI is rolling out Grok Build as an early beta coding agent and CLI for terminal-based software work. It’s initially available to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers and supports plan mode, headless `-p` runs, and ACP workflows.
xAI is trying to make Grok relevant to working developers, not just chat users. The product reads like a direct bid for Claude Code, Cursor agents, and other terminal-first coding assistants.
- –Grok Build plugs into existing repo conventions, including `AGENTS.md`, plugins, hooks, skills, and MCP servers
- –Plan/review/approve plus clean diffs is the right shape for serious agentic coding, not just autocomplete
- –Headless `-p` mode makes it usable in scripts and automation, which widens it beyond interactive terminal sessions
- –ACP support suggests xAI wants Grok Build to be a platform for custom agent orchestration, not a closed box
- –The SuperGrok Heavy gate means the first feedback loop will come from paid power users, which should help polish it but slows broad adoption
