Google drops Deep Research Max agents
Google has split its autonomous research offering into a faster Deep Research agent and a more exhaustive Deep Research Max, both built on Gemini 3.1 Pro. The new stack targets long-horizon research workflows across web and private sources, with citations, charts, and developer access through the Interactions API.
// ANALYSIS
This is a real step toward agentic knowledge work, but it’s still best understood as a high-end research pipeline, not a replacement for human judgment. It removes the tedious first pass; it does not remove the need to verify sources or frame the question correctly.
- –MCP support and private-data access push this beyond chat into enterprise workflow territory
- –The speed-vs-depth split is sensible product design: most research tasks do not need maximum latency or cost
- –Native visualizations and structured outputs make the agent easier to plug into downstream reporting systems
- –The value is in synthesis, not truth; polished reports can still amplify weak or biased sources
- –Junior-analyst work gets compressed first, especially search, collection, and briefing prep
