Claude Code Templates Adds External Skills
Claude Code Templates now lets skill authors publish directly from their own GitHub repositories while distributing through aitmpl. Installations pin commits, verify file hashes, and run security checks, with 11 external skills already available.
This moves Claude Code’s skill ecosystem closer to a package registry, giving authors ownership without sacrificing discoverability or reproducibility.
- –External repositories reduce duplication and keep upstream maintenance with original authors
- –Commit pinning and hash verification limit supply-chain drift between review and installation
- –Static security scanning adds an important baseline for skills that can influence agent behavior or execute tools
- –The model could become a trusted distribution layer for Claude Code workflows, but users still need to inspect permissions and scripts
- –Early adoption with 11 skills suggests the registry is testing a scalable alternative to one giant vendored collection
