OpenAI resets paid ChatGPT limits
OpenAI says a global usage reset will reach all paid ChatGPT accounts tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT after GPT-6.1 Sol slowed under its initial load spike. The company says Sol’s speed has returned to expected levels.
This is a useful goodwill patch, but it also shows how quickly a model launch can turn capacity planning into a product issue.
- –The reset should refresh eligible usage allowances automatically, separate from banked or purchased resets. [OpenAI Help Center](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001516-managing-usage-with-gpt-6-astra-in-work-and-codex)
- –For developers relying on ChatGPT or Codex, restored quota matters as much as model quality because throttling directly reduces workflow throughput.
- –GPT-6.1 Sol is positioned near Astra-level performance at lower cost, with a 1.05-million-token context window and tool support through the Responses API. [OpenAI API documentation](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/models/gpt-6.1-sol)
- –The real test is whether capacity remains stable after the reset brings dormant paid users back online.
